Manchester United are close to finalising a deal that would see Borussia Dortmund and Japan midfielder Shinji Kagawa move to Old Trafford for £17.5m this summer.

With a fee agreed, United will not enter contract negotiations with the 23-year-old. Kagawa scored 13 goals as Dortmund clinched the Bundesliga last season.

England have named their final squad for this summer's Euro 2012 championships, with captain Steven Gerrard No 4 and Andy Carroll handed the No 9 shirt.

Elsewhere, Cristiano Ronaldo insists he is confident Portugal can escape their so called group of death at Euro 2012, featuring Germany, Holland and Denmark.


In today's transfer news, Mohamed Diame has admitted he was close to joining Liverpool before Kenny Dalglish was sacked by the Anfield club. (Sky Sports)

Edin Dzeko continues to be linked with a move away from Manchester City, with Serie A champions Juventus reportedly planning a bid. (talkSPORT)

And finally, former Everton striker Louis Saha has been released by Tottenham, having joined the White Hart Lane club five months ago. (The Sun)
