The acquisition of Eden Hazard will cost Chelsea a total of £78 million, after the Blues beat Manchester City and Manchester United to the signature of the Belgian star.

Hazard revealed on Monday evening that he would be leaving Lille for London this summer after one of the most drawn out transfer sagas in the recent memory.

City and United were initially the favourites to sign the 21-year-old, before Chelsea's dramatic victory over Bayern Munich in the final of the Champions League prompted Hazard to change his mind.

The Blues will pay Lille £35.5 million to bring Hazard to Stamford Bridge, reports The Telegraph, while Hazard has negotiated a deal that allows him to receive a yearly salary of £4.6 million after taxation.

This means Chelsea will pay the Belgium forward £9 million-a-year, which will works out at a weekly wage of around £170,000 over five years for Hazard.

Hazard's agent, John Bico, has been aggressive in his negotiations, and also stands to earn £6 million himself when the deal goes through, as expected.

This means the full cost of secure Hazard will cost Roman Abromovich almost £80 million which, even by his standards, is rather extravagant.
