Eden Hazard has claimed the best player he has ever played with is Arsenal winger Gervinho.

The Belgian forward, who is set to complete a transfer to Chelsea, also claimed to watch videos of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo before praising his former Lille teammate, who moved to the Gunners last summer from the French side.

Hazard’s comments may come as a surprise to Arsenal fans as the Ivory Coast winger, whom Arsene Wenger deemed worth and £11million transfer fee, has had an inconsistent first season at Emirates Stadium.

The 21-year-old announced he would be moving to Stamford Bridge via his Twitter account and stated his ambition to become on a par with the world’s two best players.

“I watched videos of great players. I was inspired by what they did, then I used to try things out in training,” he said in The Sun.

“A lot of players watch videos of others. I’m not scared to say I watch videos of Messi and Ronaldo, I try and inspire myself from them.

“Great players inspire you. The best player I played with was Gervi (Gervinho).

“We didn’t have the same qualities, but we both tried to make the difference. He taught me some things. He makes the right runs.”

Arsenal fans will be hoping that Gervinho’s second season in north London is an improvement on his first.

After making a promising start, the 25-year-old looked drained in the latter part of the season – his trip to the Africa Cup of Nations final is likely to have had something to do with this.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have yet to formally announce the signing of Hazard, despite the player’s public revelation.
