Alberto Aquilani is keen to know where he will be playing his football next season, but accepts he must wait until Liverpool's managerial situation has been resolved.

Sky Sports reports how the 27-year-old midfielder - who spent last season on loan at the San Siro with AC Milan - is in a state of flux, after coming to the end of a spell back in his native Italy.

Having been frozen out of the first-team picture at Anfield, Aquilani is expected to leave Liverpool permanently this summer, but a sale is unlikely to be completed prior to the appointment of a new manager.

The Reds' American owners Fenway Sports Group are poised to announce Brendan Rodgers as Kenny Dalglish's long-term successor on Merseyside, and the Italian international will wait to speak with the new boss before making a final decision.

"I need to understand whether there are conditions for an agreement that satisfies everyone," Aquilani told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I'm waiting for Liverpool to decide the name of the new coach, then we will meet in order to understand their plans. Only then will I be able to make the right decision. It is important that I have the opportunity to make a contribution, to be able to play well and play regularly."

A number of clubs in Serie A are keen to sign Aquilani, who also impressed during his time with Juventus, but negotiations have reached an impasse.

"The situation is that there have been no developments," confirmed his agent Franco Zavaglia to "We must be patient and wait for Liverpool to make a decision.

"There is no problem, but before talking about what Alberto wants to do we must first understand what the British club intend to do."
