Premier League clubs are free to sign Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho on a free transfer after his Flamengo contract was cancelled.

The former Champions League winner with Barcelona and World Player of the Year went to court to have his contract with the Rio club amid claims that have failed to pay him £12million in wages.

The 32-year-old moved back to his homeland two years ago after leaving AC Milan and his form has been erratic, drawing both high criticism and praise for his performances.

Lately, however, it has been mostly the former and Flamengo’s largest fan society posted a letter on their website slamming the World Cup winner for his indiscipline and excessive nightlife.

The situation came to a head when a Judge ruled in the former PSG star’s favour, allowing his contract with Flamengo to be terminated.

“His contract has been terminated,” Ronaldinho's lawyer Gislaine Nunes said.

“Flamengo has already been notified. Now we are demanding a very high amount in compensation, of course, which he has the right to receive by contract.”

The termination means he is now free to join any club he chooses and he could be tempted into having a go at playing the Premier League for the first time.
