Manchester United are hoping to add Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric to their list of summer signings after agreeing a deal for Shinji Kagawa.

The Mirror is reporting that Sir Alex Ferguson will not stop at the acquisition of the Japan international and will attempt to lure Spurs star Modric to Old Trafford this summer as he sets about trying to regain the Premier League title next year.

The Croatian’s future at White Hart Lane has been in doubt since Chelsea’s Champions League triumph meant Harry Redknapp’s side will be forced to embark on another gruelling Europa League campaign, despite finishing in the top four, and the Red Devils are reportedly ready to exploit this uncertainty.

Modric is reportedly willing to submit another transfer request to leave this summer.

The 26-year-old did so last year to try and force through a move to Chelsea, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy stood firm and convinced the player to stay on at the club for another year.

United will be hoping a similar situation develops this time around, as it will be difficult for Tottenham to deny Modric a move two summers running and especially now they have no Champions League football.
