Roberto Di Matteo is set to be appointed as permanent Chelsea manager this week, with an official announcement expected on Wednesday.

The Italian is reported to have earned an initial one year contract, having led Chelsea to FA Cup and Champions League triumphs last season.

Giovanni Trapattoni has insisted Ireland can still reach the knockout stages of Euro 2012 despite last night's 3-1 defeat at the hands of Croatia.

Elsewhere, former Spartak Moscow and Mallorca manager Michael Laudrup has emerged as the favourite to succeed Brendan Rodgers at Swansea City.
