Steven Gerrard: England talisman

Steven Gerrard has emerged as the key figure in England's challenge for the European Championship trophy this summer.

Handed the captain's armband by manager Roy Hodgson, the talismanic Liverpool midfielder appears galvanised in his current role with the Three Lions ahead of a quarter-final clash against Italy on Sunday night.

With three assists from five goals for the Three Lions, it's clear that Gerrard has taken on the role of chief creator for his country, delivering pin-point crosses from either open play or set-pieces.

Starting in a deep midfield position, the 32-year-old has gradually been handed more license to get forward during Euro 2012, with Scott Parker acting as a defensive screen whenever the 95-cap international looks to advance and get involved in attack.

We shouldn't be surprised at Gerrard's increasing importance for England though, having been an integral part of the side for over a decade under a host of different managers.

In that time, Gerrard has scored and created a number of key goals in big games and major tournaments.

And, to recognise his involvement thus far at Euro 2012, we look back at some of his great moments for England - with the help of YouTube! The big question is, can he produce some more in Poland & Ukraine over the next fortnight?

A nation waits with baited breath.
