The world's most popular football game, FIFA, has announced the world's best player, Lionel Messi, will be their new cover star.
The FIFA Player of the Year is the new face of the franchise for the next installment of EA Sports FIFA, and the Barca star has inspired a whole host of changes and upgrades for the next title.
The new game, which goes on sale on September 25 in North America, and three days later on September 28 in Europe, boasts a new possession system, updated graphics, teams and kits, and most importantly, the endorsement of the world's best player.
Messi previously graced the cover of rival game Pro Evolution Soccer, but in recent years FIFA has grown in popularity, and is now one of the best-selling console games ever.
For the past five years, Manchester United's Wayne Rooney has taken his place on the front sleeve, along with Kaka, Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Ronaldinho. And it seems likely that Messi will take his place alongside another footballing superstar, depending on the region where the game is sold.
Last year's FIFA 12 saw Wilshere and Rooney on the cover in the UK, and the game broke the record for the fastest selling sports game of all-time, shifting more than 3 million copies in the first week.
This year's release is the 20th incarnation of the FIFA franchise, and continues the evolution from the last game.
FIFA 13 will boast a range of new features including, a smarter computer opponent, a new, improved 360-degree dribbling function, and a revamped first-touch control.
Messi's first touch and dribbling already rates among the best on the pitch, and the Argentina star is likely to be the top player on the game as well. La Liga's top scorer was closest to perfection on FIFA 12, with a 94 rating, just ahead of his Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo on 92.
But now the Portuguese star has wrestled the La Liga title from his Barca rival, does Ronaldo deserve a higher ranking than Messi on EA Sports latest game?
