Chelsea are reportedly ready to move for Inter Milan full-back Maicon, as they continue to look for cover in defence.

The Stamford Bridge club will allow Portuguese defenders Jose Bosingwa and Paulo Ferreira to leave this summer, but that will leave manager Roberto di Matteo with only Branislav Ivanovic left in that particular position.

A report in talkSPORT has claimed that the Blues want to sign Inter’s Brazilian international this summer and are ready to move for him in the coming weeks.

The 30-year-old is a fan favourite at San Siro, but reports of his possible departure to Paris St Germain could mean he is ready for a new challenge.

Maicon would be Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s third purchase of the summer after already signing Belgian star Eden Hazard and young German playmaker Marko Marin.

The Blues have been linked with a number of players since their Champions League triumph last month and it appears Abramovich is ready to significantly bolster Di Matteo’s squad as they bid to get back into the Premier League top four next season.
