England v Germany; Manchester United v Liverpool; Inter Milan v AC Milan; Real Madrid v Barcelona.
Whilst these matches might rank as some of the biggest in the world on the pitch, another titanic battle is being played out off it.
Computer games are big business, and in Pro Evolution Soccer and FIFA, two of the industry's biggest hitters are ready for war at the start of the 2012/13 season.
Created by Konami, the Pro Evo franchise was once the king of the football world in this area, before the creation of the PS3 saw the FIFA franchise dramatically change their fortunes.
Having already announced their release date (September 25th/28th) and shown some of the exciting new features in early trainers, FIFA appear one-step ahead again this year.
However, Pro Evo’s game trailer and expected release date in October has shown that they are ready to step-up their game once again, with new cover star Cristiano Ronaldo and Brazilian sensation Neymar heavily featured:
The big question on ever gamer’s lips however, is will it be as good as FIFA?
Made by sporting powerhouse EA Sports, the game has gradually improved since 2008, and will again be looking to make advances next year:
Both games are going all-out for victory, and Jon Murphy, team leader of PES 2013, has certainly stoked the fire with claims that FIFA are looking at ‘a different audience’ away from their football base?
"We always focused on gameplay and that's what we want to get back to. Maybe EA thinks they've gone far enough with gameplay and they've got other things to do – maybe they want to attract a different kind of audience with different features,” said Murphy.
"But I've always thought it's right that we should be concentrating really hard on the way you play a game against someone else, and that unique PES feeling, which is all about gameplay."
One thing’s for certain – we can’t wait! Which game do you prefer? Have your say here…
