Neymar ‘phenomenon’ doesn’t touch magic Messi

When it comes to the mythical battle of who’s the best footballer in the world, most people immediately point to Lionel Messi.

Those who don’t would probably choose Cristiano Ronaldo as their main man, with few others coming close to La Liga’s top two players in the eyes of many.

However, Brazilian legend Pele made a case for the rising star in South America – Neymar – and now Barca full-back Dani Alves has labeled the 20-year-old a phenomenon.

The future is undoubtedly bright for the Santos starlet, with expectation levels in his homeland massive ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

However, Alves feels that being compared to Messi is a burden his compatriot doesn’t currently deserve, and that the Argentine playmaker is the ‘undisputed best’ on the world stage at the current time.

"Neymar is a true phenomenon. However, for now, any player who is compared to Messi comes out badly," Alves told reporters.

"He has a bright future ahead of him, but Messi is the undisputed best at the moment. His stats are simply amazing."
