Mugging could push Cavani towards Chelsea

Napoli forward Edinson Cavani could be open to a move to Chelsea after his wife was mugged in Naples.

The Stamford Bridge club have been linked with a move for the Uruguayan international for some time, but Napoli have so far resisted any advances for their star man.

However, comments from Cavani’s agent have hinted the 25-year-old may have had enough of life in the Italian city and are worried for their safety.

Maria Soledad has joined her husband in London, where he is with the Uruguay Olympic football squad, after two men attacked her as she walked to her car and made off with a £14,500 Audemars Piguet watch.

It is not the first time they have been victims of crime; they had their home burgled recently, while the wife of Cavani’s Napoli team-mate, Marek Hamsik, was car-jacked during last season.

“It is not a good moment, but they are trying to get over it,” Claudio Anellucci said in The Mirror.

“She has left Naples to join Cavani. It is difficult to get used to the idea that these sort of things can happen to you.

“It is true that incidents of this type can happen to anybody, but the truth is they happen too often.”

Any Chelsea interest would reportedly be rivalled by current Serie A champions Juventus, who are keen to add to their ranks as they bid to make their mark in next year’s Champions League.
