Manchester City beat Wolsburg 2-0 as they continued their pre-season tour of Germany – but Chelsea stumbled to a shock 3-1 defeat to Championship side Brighton.

Roberto Di Matteo was not happy with his charges as a near-full strength Chelsea team were taken apart by Gus Poyet’s Brighton side. Despite Frank Lampard giving the Blues an early lead, Eden Hazard and co couldn’t hold on, slipping to a 3-1 loss at the Amex Stadium.

Manchester City fared better as Sergio Aguero continued his excellent pre-season form by opening the scoring for Roberto Mancini’s men. The Argentinian has picked up from where he left off at the end of the last season, when he scored the Premier League winning goal in the final seconds against QPR.

City’s second came from another of their top performers last season. Yaya Toure provided a neat finish 10 minutes into the second half to give Mancini’s side a comfortable win in Germany.

Barcelona drew 2-2 in a marquee friendly against French side Paris St-Germain. Rafinha opened the scoring for Barca before each side scored a penalty apiece – converted by Lionel Messi and Paris new-boy Zlatan Ibrahimovic .

A late Zoumana Camara strike sent the game to penalties, only for Barca to win 4-1 on spot-kicks, Gerard Pique dispatching the winning strike.

Barcelona’s pre-season preparations haven’t been plain sailing so far, but new Barca boss Tito Vilanova will be pleased to see three-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi back on the pitch and back among the goals.
