Arsenal left-back Andre Santos was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving just two miles outside the Gunners’ training ground, said Police.

The Brazil international was stopped by police officers after the suspect was seen to be driving erratically. The 29-year-old from Sao Paulo then refused to stop for the officers when asked to do so.

The alleged event occurred last Friday, and Santos took his place on the Arsenal bench for the match against Sunderland the following day.

According to reports, the Arsenal defender was driving in London Colney in Hertfordshire, just 2 miles from the Gunners’ training base when the incident took place.

Officers noticed the powerful sports car driving erratically in the area, and the suspect was apprehended after a brief chase. However, police added that Santos was not breathalysed.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Shortly after 9:30am on Friday August 17, a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police on the A1, near to Junction 22 of the M25.

“Officers’ attention was drawn to the vehicle due to the manner of its driving.

“The man has been bailed to return at a date in mid-September to a North London police station.”

Arsene Wenger’s side face Stoke away next Sunday, before a difficult trip to Anfield to face Brendan Rodgers’ side at the beginning of September.
