Chelsea v Reading: Match Preview

Roberto Di Matteo could welcome Ramires back into the team after the Brazil international recovered from the illness that kept him out of the squad to face Wigan.

Eden Hazard is expected to keep his place in the Chelsea side after his stellar debut last Sunday, although fellow summer signing Marko Marin remains out with a hamstring injury.

The Blues have never lost at home to Reading, and Di Matteo enjoys the luxury of fielding an unchanged team from the side that beat Wigan 2-0 if he decides to do so.

But with just three days rest, the Chelsea boss could shuffle the pack, and £25m summer signing Oscar is pushing for a start.

But Di Matteo warned fans not to expect too much too soon from the Brazil star, who is coming off the back of a tough Olympic schedule.

“He’s not been long with us, so we need to give him the right time to get him used to the team, and our tactics, and slowly put him into the team,” said Di Matteo.

The Blues boss was also asked about the possibility of signing Cesar Azpilicueta, although Di Matteo insists there is “no news” on the Spain under-23 right-back. But the Marsaille defender was left out of the French side’s most recent squad, leading to speculation that a move to Stamford Bridge is close.

Reading will be without influential midfielder Jem Karacan, who is sidelined with a leg injury, while powerful striker Jason Roberts is suspended and Jimmy Kebe still suffering with a hamstring injury. Reading haven't recorded a league win against the Stamford Bridge side since 1930, and last season's Championship winners face a tough test this evening.
