Drogba shows Premier League class in China

Didier Drogba showed why Premier League clubs continue to be linked with his services, after hitting a fine goal for Shanghai Shenhua in their 3-0 win over Liaoning Hongyun.

The Ivorian international has been in the headlines over the past few weeks as a board dispute at the club threatens to affect his huge salary in the Chinese Super League.

However, the 34-year-old was happy to put the speculation behind him and do his talking on the pitch, adding his side’s third goal with a sweet volley at the far post in injury-time.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for the player in the English press, but Arsene Wenger was coy over a potential move during a press conference prior to the Gunners’ 6-1 win over Southampton at the weekend.

And, with Drogba hoping to represent his country in the African Cup of Nations in January 2013, it’s unlikely that a club in England will bring the player to the Premier League on a loan basis.

The financial situation in Shanghai would now seem to hold the key to a return for the Chelsea legend, but he certainly still holds the skills to make an impact anywhere.
