The world of football according to Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has never been afraid to express exactly what he thinks during media briefings, and his own players were the subjects of the Real Madrid boss' latest rant.

The Portuguese complained that he does not 'have a team' following Real's weekend defeat to Sevilla, which left them eight points behind Barcelona in pursuit of the Spanish title.

He added: "Just the first half? You are being nice. It was bad from the first minute to the last.

"I changed two players at half-time but I could have changed seven. It is one of the things that you should be allowed to do – change more players."

Mourinho's comments over the course of his career have entertained, criticised and landed him in trouble in equal measure, and GMF has decided to highlight some of his more memorable quotes…

On arriving at Chelsea as a Champions League winner...

"Please don't call me arrogant, but I'm European champion and I think I'm a special one."

On Arsene Wenger's fascination with Chelsea...

"I think he is one of these people who is a voyeur. He likes to watch other people. There are some guys who, when they are at home, have a big telescope to see what happens in other families. He speaks, speaks, speaks about Chelsea."

On Chelsea's controversial Champions League semi-final defeat to Liverpool...

"It was a goal that came from the moon - from the Anfield stands.

"The best team lost. After they scored only one team played, the other one just defended for the whole game."

On Tottenham 4-5 Arsenal...

"That was not a football score, it was a hockey training I often play matches of three against three and when the score reaches 5-4 I send the players back to the dressing room, because they are not defending properly.

On the Italian press...

"I always speak from my heart and I always speak in an honest way. But if I do it about Serie A, I will be suspended.

My situation is clear: I'm very happy at Inter, I'm not happy in Italian football."

On Barcelona's 2-0 win at the Bernabeu in 2011...

"The return game is mission impossible.

''Barcelona has qualified for the final. Sometimes I feel disgusted about this football world of ours. Yes, we have already been knocked out.

''We had the intention to keep the game at 0-0, then bring on a striker, then a third phase with a No. 10 behind three forwards. But the ref didn't allow it.''

On Barcelona being a 'small team'...

"Real Madrid gave a spectacular performance from the first to the last minute. We came here to play.

"What I'm about to say is not a criticism, I'm just stating a fact: there were no ballboys in the second half, which is something typical of small teams when experiencing difficulties.

"I'm not going to say we're happy because we didn't win the Spanish Super Cup, that would be hypocritical of me. But we intended to play like men and not fall on the ground at the slightest touch."
