Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi says he wants to sign Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – but admits it is highly unlikely he will be able to land the two superstars.

Al-Khelaifi has spent extravagantly since the Qatar Investment Authority took charge of the Ligue 1 outfit in 2011, bringing in the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Javier Pastore.

Speaking in an interview with Madrid-based sports paper Al-Khelaifi expressed his admiration for the free-scoring pair, and said he would one day like to see them plying their trade at the Parc des Princes.

“Well, some of the best players in the world are already here but obviously we're here to win titles. It's clear this is a bridge we need to cross for big names to follow,” Al Khelaifi said.

“I saw the highlights of both Madrid and Barcelona's matches, they are the best and my favourites. We learn from them.

“They (Ronaldo and Messi) are the two best players in the world and it would be great to have them both in your team. They have a unique charm. I like them both.”

Ronaldo’s recent unhappiness at Real Madrid has been well publicised, prompting reports the Portuguese winger could be gearing up to leave the Bernabeu – although Al-Khelaifi says Paris Saint-Germain have now approached Madrid over his availability.

“I'm not going to talk about other club's players. I respect Madrid and Florentino (Perez) is a great chairman. It's too soon to talk about Ronaldo. He's very professional.

“If Cristiano is sad it's not because we've been in touch with him. If we were interested we would speak to Madrid first.

“They have the best players and it's good for us to have a good relationship with them and the rest of the clubs. Our project is also based on respecting other clubs. We're going to respect football.”
