Spain manager explains Torres issue

Fernando Torres' place in the Spain national team was previously one unquestioned, but the Chelsea striker has seen his role become more limited in recent months.

The 28-year-old started only two of La Roja's six matches on their way to glory at the European Championships during the summer, and rarely finds himself competing 90 minutes of football for Spain.

This however, says Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque, is not a matter of him questioning the ability of Torres, but simply because he has to accommodate a number of talented players.

"They cannot play all the time, this is the problem we have," Del Bosque said, according to AS, when asked specifically about Torres.

"We have great players in [the national team], we try to be fair and choose the best players for every match."

Torres made his 100th appearance for Spain against Saudi Arabia earlier this month; becoming the sixth player to reach a century for the reigning world and European champions.

The former Liverpool striker has scored 31 goals in his 100 games - 13 behind Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez and 21 shy of record scorer David Villa.
