David Beckham’s position as the superstar of Major League Soccer could be under threat from a young teammate at the LA Galaxy, with Juninho stealing the show in the absence of the former England international captain.
It wasn’t just the fact that the Brazilian-born midfielder scored twice in his side’s 4-2 win over Toronto FC on Saturday night, but the nature of the goals which had a certain Beckham stamp on them.
First, the 23-year-old took charge of a free-kick on the edge of the penalty box, and bent it past the helpless Freddy Hall into the top corner.

If that wasn’t enough, Juninho proceeded to smash home a 35-yard screamer in the 33rd minute, putting his side 2-0 up with a sublime first-time strike which flew into the top corner.

Robbie Keane also scored twice for the Galaxy, who secured their place in the MLS play-offs with the win as they look to replicate last season’s championship success.
