Arsenal in €7m Spanish fight over Dragovic

Arsenal are being linked with a move for Austrian international defender Aleksandar Dragovic, according to reports.

The 21-year-old Austrian already has 14 caps for his country, and has made a name for himself as one of the top centre backs in the Swiss Super League – a competition he’s already won twice after making his debut for FC Basel in 2011.

He moved to St. Jakob-Park in 2011 after three seasons with Austria Wien, and featured in the shock Champions League win over Manchester United that sent Sir Alex Ferguson’s side crashing into the Europa League.

Now, talkSPORT claims the player – valued in the region of €7 million – could move to the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger considers his options.

However, the Gunners face competition from Valencia in the race to sign the player, with the same source claiming the La Liga outfit are also keen on Dragovic.

Arsenal have started the season well defensively, but two set-piece concessions against Chelsea have again raised concerns over the club’s fragility at the heart of defence.

Dragovic could be the answer in January, although Wenger has not confirmed in the recent reports of Arsenal’s interest are indeed correct.
