Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has returned to the Scotland squad and is ready to give manager Craig Levein a boost and play in their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.

Fletcher is only just beginning his comeback from an extended period on the sidelines due to suffering from bowel condition ulcerative colitis.

The Scotland skipper made his competitive comeback in the Red Devils’ 1-0 win over Galatasaray at Old Trafford in the Champions League.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed in December of last year that the 28-year-old would be taking an indefinite break from training and playing in a bid to get on top of the condition that had kept him out intermittently throughout the previous season.

Fletcher’s return to playing is timely for United and Scotland, as both have had struggles in midfield recently. Ferguson’s side has been accused of lacking some grit and protection in front of the back four – attributes Fletcher’s possesses in abundance.
