Liverpool hero John Aldridge has revealed he's excited by the future for his old club after watching the Reds dismantle Norwich 5-2 last weekend.

Brendan Rodgers' side earned their manager a first league win with a composed away performance - Luis Suarez bagging a hat-trick.

But it was the performances of Liverpool's young stars, the likes of Suso, Andre Wisdom and Raheem Sterling - all still teenagers - that caught Aldridge's eye.

Writing in his Liverpool Echo column, Aldridge said: "I thoroughly enjoyed the performance of a staggeringly young side at West Bromwich Albion.

"The theme was was continued against Norwich…make no mistake; this Liverpool side is starting to look like it will be everything Brendan Rodgers promised us it would be. It has his hallmark stamped all over it."

Aldridge went on to say that, although it is still early on in the development of this team, their retention of possession and ferocious enthusiasm reminds him of some of the great Liverpool sides, and the Reds legend sees Rodgers sharing the same values as Anfield great Bill Shankly.

Recent reports suggest Wisdom, Sterling and Suso are set for new Liverpool contracts. Sterling in particular has established himself in the Reds first-team while the Merseyside club has high hopes for England youth international Wisdom and Spanish teammate and former-Cadiz academy star Suso.

Liverpool face Udinese in the Europa League on Thursday evening before Brendan Rodgers' side entertain Stoke City at Anfield at the weekend.
