Turkish international defender Semih Kaya is aware of interest from Manchester United, according to agent Tekin Birinci.
Galatasaray vice president Ali Durst confirmed that Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson had already made contact with the club at the start of last week, and the news came as no surprise to Birinci, even though negotiations have not started between the two parties.
"I read about it too, but I do not think there are negotiations underway. The player has great quality, it is normal to be followed by the big clubs, who have scouts around the world,” he told Calciomercato.com.
"Galatasaray president Unal Aysal has publicly put to rest all the rumors, excluding a transfer. At least for the moment."
Regarded as one of the top young defenders in Europe, Kaya is known as ‘the rock’ at the Turk Telekom Arena, and has already made six appearances for his country at the age of 21.
Manchester United are short of players in defence at present, with captain Nemanja Vidic joining youngsters Phil Jones and Chris Smalling on the treatment table at Old Trafford.
That leaves Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans as the only fit senior centre backs currently on the books, which goes some way to explain Ferguson’s interest in adding in the position during the January transfer window.
