Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is set to sign a new Reds deal that will secure his long-term Anfield future.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Danish centre-back has been locked in negotiations with the Liverpool hierarchy, and has finally agreed the main details on a new four-year contract worth around £75,000 a week.

The 27-year-old could put pen to paper before tonight's Europa League match against Udinese, but Agger is unlikely to feature at Anfield due to a knee complaint.

The Dane was carried off against Manchester United ten days ago, and revealed he feared he'd damaged ligaments, ruling him out for months.

But the injury is not as bad as first thought, to the relief of Agger, although Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers admitted he would be taking no chances with the defender's fitness.

"We know his history, and we have to manage his appearances," said Rodgers.

Agger was transfer window target for Manchester City, but the Reds managed to ward off interest in the Dane, and he now looks set to commit to the Anfield club for the foreseeable future.

The Reds face Serie A side Udinese tonight, but Rodgers is likely to rest many of his big names for the visit of Stoke in the Premier League at the weekend.
