Spain manager Vincente Del Bosque admits he can't decide whether Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi is the better player.

The former-Real Madrid boss thinks La Liga is lucky to have the world's two best players playing in the division, but refused to be drawn on his preference.

Messi is a three-time Ballon d'Or winner, and could win an unprecedented fourth this year, while Real Madrid star Ronaldo fired his side to the league title last season - their first since 2008.

Speaking at an award ceremony, and quoted on, Del Bosque said: "I can not decide [between Messi and Ronaldo], both are very good and we are lucky to have them here with us."

The two superstars face off during this weekend's El Clasico at the Nou Camp, with Barcelona eight points clear of their rivals after just six games.

Messi and Ronaldo, who battled for the Pichichi for the whole of last season, each have six goals this year, but trail Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao who has seven.

But Del Bosque just hopes for a peaceful El Clasico on Sunday - the majority of his Spain starting 11 will be playing in the match.

"We have always been cautious ahead of the Clasicos," said the Spain coach. "Madrid and Barcelona have experienced moments that were not pleasant.

"I hope the players put in good performances which will help to avoid problems."

Real Madrid forward Ronaldo hit a hat-trick as the nine-time European champions beat Ajax 4-1 during this week's Champions League tie.

Barcelona also took three points at they prepare for this weekend's big match, beating Benfica in their own backyard 2-0 - Messi assisting both goals.
