Juventus and Barcelona are preparing to launch bids for Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic, according to calciomercato.com.
Vidic is currently out of action for two months as he continues his rehabilitation from surgery on his knee, but that has not stopped speculation over his future at Old Trafford.
The Serbian’s contract at Old Trafford expires in 2014, and according to Calciomercato both Juventus and Barcelona are prepared to test United’s willingness to keep hold of the 30-year-old who has a history of knee problems.
Barcelona appear desperately short of options at the back because of Carles Puyol’s string of injury problems, with Alex Song and Javier Mascherano filling in at the back this season.
Juventus meanwhile are monitoring developments and are ready to challenge Barcelona for Vidic, who was reportedly close to move away from Old Trafford in 2010.
Manchester United appear to be well stocked in central defence having invested heavily over the past two seasons, bringing in the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
Sir Alex Ferguson recently stated his belief that Rio Ferdinand can play on for the foreseeable future, while Jonny Evans has grown in stature having been forced to play regularly last season in place of the injured Vidic.
