Arsenal are reportedly lining up an €18million bid for Dinamo Zagreb starlet Mateo Kovacic, after scouting him for the past six months.

A report on Hungarian website claims Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has taken a keen interest in the 18-year-old and believes he has what it takes to succeed at Emirates Stadium.

Kovacic, who was reportedly watched by Arsenal scouts as early as two years ago, has been dubbed the ‘Croatian Messi’ and made his Dinamo debut at just 16 years old.

The report claims the north London side’s scouts have been impressed by Kovacic’s professionalism and the fact he does not seem to have been seduced by the add-ons that come with being a successful young footballer.

Wenger has raided the Dinamo Zagreb ranks before; he signed Brazilian born striker Eduardo da Silva from them in 2007, but the fee was nowhere in the region of the supposed €18million that the report claims Arsenal we have to pay.
