Manchester United transfer target Sofiane Feghouli is reportedly set for a new contract at Valencia.

According to Spanish newspaper Super Deporte, the Algerian playmaker is in talks with the La Liga club to extend his deal, striking a blow to Manchester United's hopes of landing the midfielder.

The France-born star is eligible for Algeria through his family as well as the country of his birth, and played for France at youth levels before opting for Algeria. He has six caps and two goals for Algeria.

The 22-year-old moved to Valencia in 2010, and has since gone on to become one of his side's most important players, earning rare review for his impressive performances in Spain.

Valencia qualified for the Champions League this season, and Feghouli has shone on the European stage, leading to speculation he could replace Paul Scholes at Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with the playmaker, Europsort claiming this week that United are desperate to sign Feghouli.

He still has two years left on his current deal, and it seems Valencia are keen to ward off any interest in their star player by extending his contract past 2014.
