Cristiano Ronaldo could miss Portugal’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Poland after injuring himself in Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw with Barcelona last night.

Ronaldo bagged a brace - taking him to 13 goals in his last 9 games - as Real Madrid secured a point at the Nou Camp, with Barcelona's Lionel Messi also scoring twice, including a stunning second half free-kick.

The Portuguese international seemed to land heavily on his shoulder after attempting an over-head kick, with early reports suggesting he may be out of action for two weeks.

That would mean he would be out of Portugal’s upcoming fixtures against Russia on Friday, as well as their game against Northern Ireland next week, but he is unlikely to miss any of Real Madrid's fixtures.

A statement on Real Madrid’s official website read: "Cristiano Ronaldo suffered a sprained left shoulder. He will undergo more tests over the next few hours."

Last night’s draw moved Real Madrid up to 5th in La Liga, eight points behind Barcelona, who sit at the top of the pile on 19 points, level with Atletico Madrid.
