Liverpool starlet target Junior Flores has not signed for Borussia Dortmund, despite claims from both the player and his father that a deal has been completed.

The 16-year-old USA youth international has been heavily linked with a move to Europe, with ESPN reporting that both the Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are monitoring the player closely after impressive performances in the Nike International Friendlies Tournament.

However, the two clubs appeared set to miss out on the player, after his father claimed a deal had been struck with the current Bundesliga champions.

"We're so happy about the Dortmund deal. We still don't believe it's really happening," Oscar Flores told The Washington Post.

The claim earned a quick response from BVB’s director of football, Michael Zorc, who insists that whilst the club have shown an interest in the player, no deal is in place to take the player to Germany at this stage.

"We know him, he is an interesting boy. But there is no contractual relation," Zorc told Ruhr Nachrichten, according to ESPN.

That’s not the end of the story however; with Flores then claiming that he has signed with the German outfit via Twitter.

"I actually did sign with Dortmund and couldn't be any happier," he tweeted.

The confusion surrounding any possible deal, which would see Flores moving on his 18th birthday in March 2014, creates more questions than in does answers.

And, whilst the remarks from Zorc give Liverpool hope over a possible deal, the fact that the player and his father are talking about a transfer before it appears to have actually happened will be a warning to the Anfield hierarchy.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has shown plenty of faith in youth since taking the reigns on Merseyside, promoting Raheem Sterling, Andre Wisdom and Suso to the Liverpool first-team within two months at the start of the season.

And, with the club's connection to America via owners Fenway Sports Group, the logic behind a Liverpool move for Flores makes sense. However, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen for the Premier League outfit at this stage.
