Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher for the commitment and professionalism they have shown since he was appointed the club's manager.

Rodgers succeeded Kenny Dalglish at Anfield in June, but has endured a difficult start to his time as Reds boss with the club making their worst start on the pitch for over a century.

The 39-year-old has, however, retained the faith of his players during this tricky time, and has outlined Gerrard and Carragher as particularly supportive members of his squad.

The Liverpool legends, says Rodgers, are nothing but committed to his project and will fight tooth and nail to ensure his reign at Anfield is a successful one.

"[Carragher] and Steven Gerrard have been phenomenal. You can go into a club and it may be difficult sometimes," Rodgers told the Daily Star.

“But these guys pledged their 150 per cent commitment from day one to what I want to do and they have never wavered from that. Jamie has been a real breath of fresh air.”

Gerrard played the full 90 minutes as Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw against Stoke on Sunday, while Carragher was an unused substitute once again.

Liverpool have taken only six points from their opening seven Premier League encounters next season, and meet Reading in their next outing on October 20.
