Werder Bremen claim comments made by Chelsea loanee Kevin De Bruyne - in which he suggested that he was not happy at the club - were mistranslated.

Sky Sports reports how the 21-year-old Belgian winger was recently quoted saying he has not been able to settle in Germany, but after a talk with coach Thomas Schaaf, the matter has been dealt with.

"Kevin called me to clarify the situation which had arisen after he gave an interview to a Belgian newspaper and this was translated by German media," said the Bremen boss. "It was a positive chat and it was important that he called me.

"It is true that Kevin has not yet really clicked with Bremen. It is his first spell abroad and he feels detached from his circle of friends in Belgium.

"Kevin has assured me that he does not have any problems with the club or his team-mates."

De Bruyne joined Chelsea in January 2012 for a reported fee of £7million, signing a five-and-a-half year deal at Stamford Bridge, before being immediately loaned back to Racing Genk for the remainder of the 2011/12 campaign.

He made his debut for Roberto Di Matteo's side in a pre-season clash against MLS side Seattle Sounders, and also featured in a friendly against Paris Saint Germain. However, in August, De Bruyne was sent to the Bundesliga to continue his development away from west London, with the opportunity for more first-team football.

Having taken part in all eight league games for Bremen this season, and chipping in with three goals, the Chelsea youngster insists he's just happy to be given a chance to play.

"In the translating process, some things obviously went wrong," De Bruyne explained via Twitter. "I really am happy in Bremen and I'm fully adapting to the German mentality.

"I'm here to learn and I'm learning each and every day, I only said that I miss my friends and my life in Belgium, but I certainly didn't say that I am unhappy here."
