Spanish starlet admits Liverpool situation ‘not easy’

Liverpool starlet Dani Pacheco has given the slightest hint of unrest at Anfield, with the Spaniard admitting it’s not easy moving from first team activity to the reserves on a regular basis.

The 21-year-old helped the Reds second string to a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough on Tuesday, back-heeling the ball into the path of Adam Morgan, who rounded the goalkeeper to score the only goal of the match.

Pacheco has been a regular for the Liverpool U21s - which replaced the more traditional reserves at the start of the season – so far this term, but he’s aiming to impress manager Brendan Rodgers and avoid playing away from the senior side.

“It’s not easy (going back into Under-21 football) especially as I’ve been here for many years now and that happens to me almost every two weeks,” said the youngster post-match, according to the Liverpool Daily Post.

“But I have to keep working as hard as I can and try to impress the manager. When I come to the reserves, some of the players who are training at the Academy every week are left on the bench because I’m in the reserves so I have to play my best, first for myself, and then for the other players in the team.”

Signed from Barcelona in 2007, Pacheco has made 16 first team appearances for Liverpool since making his debut against Fiorentina in 2009. Only three of those have been starts.

He’s also had two playing spells away from the Anfield outfit on loan, helping Norwich to promotion from the Npower Championship at the end of the 2010/11 season, before moving to Spain for a stint with Rayo Vallecano.

Under Rodgers, the two-cap U21 international was retained on Merseyside for the start of the season, and has featured in Liverpool’s 5-3 Europa League win over Young Boys and 2-1 win at West Brom.

Pacheco will be eager to make more of a Premier League impact for Liverpool this season, however, and he’s yet to start in the English top flight this term.
