PSV will not sell Kevin Strootman to Manchester United or AC Milan in January - but face a fight to hold on to their star midfielder next summer.

According to talkSPORT, the Dutch international will not be allowed to leave the club this January when the transfer window opens, despite Strootman's agent insisting his player could leave.

Chiel Dekker, Strootman's representative, claimed his client could leave PSV in January, but the Eredivisie club will now hold firm.

The Netherlands international midfielder is set to become his country's youngest post-war captain tomorrow when the Netherlands take on Andorra in World Cup qualifiers. First-choice skipper Wesley Sneijder misses the match through injury, and Dutch coach Louis van Gaal has confirmed Strootman will wear the armband.

Strootman has been a transfer target for Manchester United and Serie 'A' giants AC Milan, but both parties will now have to wait until the end of this season for a chance to sign the midfielder.

Sir Alex Ferguson was believed to be interested in bringing Strootman to Manchester United this summer, but failed to reach a deal with PSV.

TalkSPORT reports PSV are already planning for life without Strootman, drawing up a list of possible replacements, but they are keen to avoid losing their star player in the middle of the season.

The Dutch club are fighting to wrest the Eredivisie title back from Ajax, and are also competing in the Europa League.

Strootman is under contract at PSV until 2016, so Manchester United and Milan will have to pay a top price for the Dutch captain.

United have several options in central midfield, including Michael Carrick, Anderson and Tom Cleverley but Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be keen to sign long-term replacements for Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.
