Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley is set receive a new contract as a reward for his rapid progress in the first-team squad.
The Old Trafford side is prepared to double Cleverley's wages just one year after signing his previous contract. The England midfielder is reportedly currently on close to £40,000-a-week, and according to the Daily Mirror, United are ready to bump his salary up in line with the club's other top stars.
Sir Alex Ferguson rates the young star as one of his brightest talents, and Cleverley has established himself this season as one of Manchester United's most important players.
The 23-year-old is set to be rewarded for his performances over the end of last season and the beginning of this, a period during which the midfielder has become a fixture in the Manchester United midfield.
Having earned call-ups to the England squad, Manchester United are now ready to increase Cleverley's salary, granting the former-Bradford City youth team player parity with the club's other first-team stars.
But a wage close to £80,000-a-week still leaves Cleverley some way short of Manchester United's highest earners. The club's most valuable stars - Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie - are thought to command a salary closer to double Cleverley's prospective wage.
