Chelsea legend set for summer exit

Ashley Cole will leave Chelsea at the end of the season after failing to agree a contract extension with the west London club, according to the Daily Mail.

Cole has been linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, with Paris seemingly a more likely destination after coach Carlo Ancelotti recently described him as the "best left back in the world."

Chelsea have reportedly only offered Cole a one year extension on his current deal, which expires next summer, in contrast to the multi-year deal the England international was seeking.

The Daily Mail reports that Cole is ready to walk out on Chelsea after failing to come to an agreement over his future at Stamford Bridge, and is ready to discuss a move abroad.

The Stamford Bridge-based club let Didier Drogba leave having only offered him a one-year deal over the summer, and look set to continue with that policy with Cole as well as fellow veteran Frank Lampard.

Cole, 31, and Lampard, 34, helped form the core of the most successful Chelsea’s side in the club’s history.

Since owner Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003, Chelsea have claimed three league titles, four FA Cup’s, and one Champions League trophy – all won with the likes of Cole and Lampard, as well as Drogba and captain John Terry at the heart of their side.

Now though there appears to be signs that the core of the team is being broken up, with the likes of summer signings Eden Hazard and Oscar ready to take the reigns.

According to the Mail, Manchester United remain interested in signing the left-back, but a move to take him to Old Trafford would likely be met with criticism from the Red Devils support. If Manchester United do make a move, they would be able to get their man on a free transfer, and begin pre-contract talks in January.

Cole recently found himself in trouble for venting his anger at the FA via Twitter, and was subsequently dropped for England’s 5-0 win over San Marino on Friday.
