Manchester United are ready to up their interest in young Porto forward James Rodriguez - and could include Javier Hernandez in a potential swap deal, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

Rodriguez has marked himself out as one of the most promising young forwards in Europe since moving to Porto in 2010, and has attracted reported interest from numerous leading European clubs.

Reports in June suggested Manchester United had failed with a bid for the South American forward, but now they are ready to make him their top target when the January transfer window opens.

A Bola report that the Red Devils may have to activate Rodriguez’s €45 million release clause if they want to take the 21-year-old to Old Trafford.

The paper also reports that Sir Alex Ferguson is considering using the out-of-favour Javier Hernandez as a makeweight in the deal in order to lower the price.

Whether Porto will be willing to sell up remains to be seen however. The sale of Hulk to Zenit St. Petersburg in the summer means they are under no obligation to sell the Colombian youngster. A Bola reports that Porto will not be willing to sell to Manchester United for anything less than his release clause.

Hernandez has found his first team chances at Old Trafford hard to come by this season thanks to the fitness and form of Danny Wellbeck, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.

Rumours surrounding the Mexican internationals future have been circulating for some time, although Sir Alex Ferguson insists he is going nowhere.
