Arsenal are the latest Premier League club to be linked with a move for Mathieu Debuchy – a long-term Newcastle target.

TalkSPORT claims both the Gunners and Magpies scouted the player on international duty this week, with the French international full-back in action against Spain last night.

The 27-year-old Lille star more than held his own against the World and European Champions, with Les Bleus grabbing a late equaliser at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has been tracking the 12-cap international for some time, with the Toon making a £6 million move to bring the player to St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window.

However, the Newcaste target wasn’t allowed to leave the Grand Stade Lille Mitropole, despite admitting he wanted to ply his trade away from the Ligue 1 outfit in mid-August.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is considering his options as the January transfer window edges closer, and defence appears to be on the agenda of the Frenchman.

Carl Jenkinson has made the right-back position his own a the Emirates Stadium in the absence of Bacary Sagna – who is being linked with a move to Inter Milan.

And, if the Frenchman were to leave in the summer as intimated, then his counterpart could be the ideal replacement for Arsenal.
