Real Madrid leading Manchester City in Daniele de Rossi chase

Manchester City are reportedly falling behind Real Madrid in the race to sign AS Roma midfielder Daniele de Rossi.

According to a report from talkSPORT, Jose Mourinho has made the Italy international his number one target in the January transfer window and have moved in front of the Etihad Stadium club.

Manchester City were heavily linked with the 29-year-old during the summer window, but manager Roberto Mancini was left disappointed when De Rossi let speculation drag out before announcing his intention to stay at the Stadio Olimpico.

This may no longer be the case, however, as the talkSPORT report claims all is not well with De Rossi and new Roma manager Zdenek Zeman, sparking speculation that the player may now consider a transfer.

Such developments would presumably be good news for Mancini and Manchester City but this report suggests they may be disappointed once more with the interest coming out of the Santiago Bernabeu.

City made a number of midfield addition during the summer, with Everton youngster Jack Rodwell and Spain international Javi Garcia coming in after the De Rossi disappointment.
