Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes Arsene Wenger may make a move for Montpellier playmaker Remy Cabella.

Pires said he has been impressed with the 22-year-old’s performances so far this season and hinted the Arsenal boss had taken notice, ad the Gunners are one of the current Ligue 1 champions’ opponents in Champions League Group B.

The Emirates Stadium club ran out fortunate 2-1 winners when the two sides met in the opening round of group fixtures, with Cabella impressing many, including the former France international.

“I’m enjoying the performances of Remy Cabella at Montpellier this season. He’s carried on from where he left off last season,” he said in an interview with the official Ligue 1 website.

"I thought he was very good against Arsenal on his Champions League debut. That shows he has character and can go a long way and that he doesn't let the pressure of big games get to him.

“I think Arsene Wenger will have noticed his performance in that Champions League game.

“Wenger likes small technical players like him, players like Santi Cazorla who he recently signed from Malaga."

“I think Wenger may have Cabella’s name in the back of his mind, and who knows, maybe he will end up at Arsenal.”

Cabella was a crucial part of Montpellier lifting their maiden French league title last season, but has been unable to stop the side from slipping down the table this season, having won just two games out of nine so far.

Were Cabella to sign for Arsenal, he would join his former Montpellier team-mate Olivier Giroud.

Pires is one of the most revered players to have worn the Gunners’ cannon in north London, having been a prominent member of the famous ‘Invincibles’, as well as being a double winner.
