Chelsea transfer target Igor Lichnovsky is reportedly wanted by AC Milan, and the Serie 'A' giants are now thought to be leading the chase for the Chilean youngster, according to talkSPORT.

Lichnovsky has been scouted extensively by Chelsea, as Roberto Di Matteo looks to the future of the Stamford Bridge side's squad.

But the centre-back is now a transfer target for Milan, and the 18-year-old could move to the Italian club in January. Massimilliano Allegri's side are currently experiencing a difficult season in Serie 'A' and find themselves in 11th place.

But Allegri is expected to be aggresive when the transfer window reopens in January, and the Milan boss is believed to be ready to bid up to £5m for the Chilean youth international.

Lichnovsky is wanted by Bayer Leverkusen as well as Chelsea and Milan, but the Italians are thought to lead the chase for the Universidad de Chile starlet.

The Santiago-born defender can also operate at left-back, and has made one appearance for the Chile under-17 team.

Chelsea are reportedly looking to sign the best youth prospects from around the world, and Lichnovsky is thought to be high on their list of priorities.

The Stamford Bridge side have invested heavily in their youth academy, and won the FA Youth Cup last season. Brazil youth star Lucas Piazon is one of a number of talented youngsters at the club, and Piazon could be the first to make the step up to the Chelsea first-team.

In recent seasons, only Ryan Bertrand has successfully transitioned from youth star to first-team regular, but the Blues are hopeful several will graduate from their most recent class.
