Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere says he cannot wait to play alongside Gunners team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at international level.

The 20-year-old made his competitive comeback in the win over QPR at Emirates Stadium on Saturday and is hoping to get his career back on track after being sidelined for 17 months since his last Premier League start.

Now he is back in the Arsenal first team, Wilshere is hoping he can develop a good understanding with fellow starlet Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has primarily used the 19-year-old signed from Southampton last summer as a wide player, but has said he expects him to eventually move to a more central role.

This would likely mean a partnership with Wilshere and the Gunners academy graduate believes this could be beneficial for both Arsenal and England.

“If we can get playing together for Arsenal then hopefully we can take it onto the international stage and it’ll be great for both club and country,” he is quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

Despite being only a year older, Wilshere is a far more senior player than Oxlade-Chamberlain, havigf already been an integral member of the Arsenal starting XI before he arrived at Emirates Stadium.

Wilshere was adamant that ‘The Ox’ was ready to take on more responsibility and move into a more central role.

“I think that Alex is already mature enough to step in at any level. You could see that at the Euros - he was just 18 but it was like he was meant to be there,” he added.

Wilshere’s comeback was initially pencilled in for Tuesday and the Capital One Cup fourth round clash at Reading, but this was brought forward due to Arsenal’s being on a two-game losing streak and lacking in creativity ahead of last Saturday.

Wenger has said he will rest him for the game at the Madejski Stadium, as there is the small matter of a trip to Old Trafford and a clash with Manchester United early on Saturday afternoon.
