Manchester United are ready to offload Nani to the highest bidder in the hope of raising £20 million to launch a bid for Porto’s James Rodruguez, according to the Daily Star.

Nani’s future has been the subject of intense debate in recent months as he reportedly stalls on signing a new deal, with Juventus and Zenit St. Petersburg said to be keen on landing the Portuguese international.

The Daily Star report that the Red Devils have grown tired of Nani’s reluctance to accept the new deal that is on the table and are ready to offload him to the highest bidder.

Nani’s current deal at Old Trafford doesn’t expire until 2014 but having come close to a move to Russia over the summer, he could well be shipped out in January having fallen down the pecking order this term.

That could pave the way for a bid for Rodriguez, who is said to be a long-term target for the Old Trafford outfit.

Sir Alex Ferguson recently denied that he was interested in landing the young Colombian attacker, who has earned himself a reputation as one of the finest young talents in Europe.

Rodriguez – known as the ‘South American Cristiano Ronaldo’ because of his similarities to the former Manchester United winger – has garnered praise for his performances this season that have so far yielded four goals in ten games, including the winner for Porto in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month.

Despite Ferguson joking that players from the Portuguese club are too expensive, the Scot is said to be an admirer of the 21-year-old and could launch a bid in January.

If the Red Devils are able to secure up to £20 million – they reportedly accepted a similar offer from Zenit over the summer so that shouldn’t prove to be a problem – then a move for Rodriguez could be on the cards.

Despite the uncertainty over his future, Nani is set to start only his 6th game for Manchester United this season when they go head to head with Chelsea in the Capital One Cup this evening.
