Liverpool and Chelsea lead the Premier League chase for Charlton starlet Joe Gomez, according to the Daily Mail.

The 15-year-old is set to play for England under-16's tonight against Wales, and scouts from Chelsea and Liverpool are expected to be in attendance.

But Roberto Di Matteo and Brendan Rodgers are not the only interested parties. The report claims Manchester City and Arsenal have also run the rule over the England youth team star, but Liverpool and Chelsea are thought to be leading the pursuit.

The Charlton scholar is yet to sign a professional deal with the Addicks - he is still too young - but the Championship side are hopeful he will sign a contract.

But Premier League scouts have been swarming all over Charlton under-18 matches in recent months, with Gomez believed to be the centre of attention, and interest is only expected to rise as the youngster set to turn out for England under-16's in Wales this evening.

The centre-back has established himself as a regular in the Charlton youth side, despite being one of the youngest players.

According to the Daily Mail, Gomez possesses all the attributes required to be a top-level defender - good in the air, quick and comfortable playing out from the back - with his ability described as 'off the scale' according to the report.

Chelsea won the FA Youth Cup last season, and the Blues have an extremely talented academy side, with players such as Lucas Piazon and Patrick Bamford expected to make the step up to first-team sooner rather than later.

Liverpool also have an excellent youth record, and Brendan Rodgers has displayed a willingness to give young players a chance to impress, with Raheem Sterling, Andre Wisdom and Suso all handed starts for the Anfield club this season.
