Former-Real Madrid star Roberto Carlos has revealed Brazil star Neymar visited Real Madrid as a 14-year-old, and Carlos said he could tell right away that the talented teenager was destined to become a top player.
The Santos star is one of the world's hottest properties, and has been linked with moves to Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona, as well as the La Liga champions.
And Carlos, who is now a director at Russian club Anzhi, has recalled the first time he met Neymar, as a highly-regarded, and highly-talented, teenager being offered a tour of the famous Real Madrid.
In an interview with FIFA.com, Carlos said: "I first met Neymar when he was 14, when he came to Spain to have a look around at Real Madrid.
"You could definitely tell then and from watching videos of him that he could play a bit.
"I think his family is the reason he's made light of all the hype and come on so well. Sometimes talent's not enough if you don't have your head screwed on properly and people you can trust around you, like I had, and like Ronaldo and Kaka have had."
Ronaldo and Kaka both went on to play for Real Madrid, as did Carlos, but Neymar has most recently been linked with a move to El Clasico rivals Barcelona.
The Catalan club were reportedly set to agree a first-option deal to sign the 20-year-old, but Santos have denied any agreement, and the player insists he's committed to his boyhood club until at least 2014.
Neymar joined Santos as an 11-year-old, and made his professional debut for the Brazilian club aged just 17.
And Neymar has already established himself as a key player in the Brazil national team, earning 25 caps and scoring 16 goals for his country.
Chelsea and Manchester City were both put on alert when Neymar dropped the biggest hint yet he could leave Santos, when he said he was taking English lessons.
Chelsea and City are among the only clubs in the world who could probably realistically afford the Ballon d'Or nominee.
