Arsenal and Liverpool target Lewis Holtby has played down speculation linking him with a move to either Premier League club.

The Schalke 04 midfielder claimed he was getting tired with people asking him whether he was going to choose Emirates Stadium or Anfield as his next destination, should he decide to leave the Bundesliga club at the end of the season.

Holtby’s contract expires in the summer and there has been no indication that he will sign an extension up until now, which has led to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers being credited with interest in him.

“I think people talk about it too much in the media. I am blue and white, I am with Schalke and agents are there to deal with that,” he is quoted as saying The Independent.

“My focus is on the squad, the team, the club and tomorrow's game. Other people can talk about it, but I just want three points for me and my team. Everything else I just put to the side.

“I play for Schalke, I don't play for Liverpool, Arsenal or anyone else.”

Holtby’s father is English and a move to Liverpool could create a bit of friendly family friction, as he is an Everton supporter, but the 22-year-old previously stated his father’s club allegiances would not be a factor in any decision over his future.

Arsenal’s interest has been mooted for some time, but their pitch will have been damaged by the awful performance they put in against Holtby’s side in the Champions League group game at Emirates Stadium two weeks ago.

Holtby started that match and will be available for the return leg in Gelsenkirchen on Tuesday evening, where the Gunners will be hoping to take some revenge.
