Stoke are set to offer Ryan Shawcross a new six-year contract to ward off interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis wants to tie his centre-back down to a new long-term deal to end speculation linking the England international with a move away from the Britannia Stadium.

Shawcross left Manchester United for an initial £1m in 2008, and has gone on to become one of the Premier League's most consistent defenders.

His recent good form saw him earn a call up into Roy Hodgson's England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland in October.

The 25-year-old has just over 18 months left to run on his current Stoke deal, but Pulis wants to move to end speculation linking Shawcross with a move to Tottenham or even back to United.

The Premier League duo were reportedly monitoring his situation, with Spurs thought to be considering a January move for the centre-back.

But Manchester United have a first refusal clause built into their deal with Stoke, and they have the right to match any bid received for Shawcross.

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed in the past that he regrets letting Shawcross leave Old Trafford, and with United struggling with a defensive injury crisis, Ferguson could be tempted to try and bring the 25-year-old back to United. Shawcross left Old Trafford in 2008 after joining the club as a 15-year-old.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas was reportedly prepared to move for Shawcross if he was able to offload Michael Dawson to Queens Park Rangers, but the former-Nottingham Forest captain's move collapsed before the close of the transfer window.

But Manchester United and Spurs were still thought to be scouting the young defender, while monitoring his contract situation, although Stoke now look set to secure his long-term future.
