Cristiano Ronaldo future "in the lap of the Gods"

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that his unhappiness could be partly down to financial reasons, but reiterated his commitment to Real Madrid, insisting he has no desire to leave Spain, reports Sky Sports.

The 27-year-old revealed in an exclusive interview with France Football that speculation linking him with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu is of little interest, and that he remains fully focused on football with Los Blancos.

Ronaldo has been lambasted for his self-centred personality, and tendency to put himself before his team-mates, but the Portuguese international argued that if he was merely motivated by money, and personal gain, he would already be plying his trade away from the Spanish capital.

"I play for the passion I have for football and for the love of the teams I represent. If I played for money, I would be at another club," he said. "All players love it when teams like Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United or Chelsea are linked to them.

"Moving is not something I am thinking about though. I am happy at Real Madrid and I want to stay here and win things."

Jose Mourinho was forced to jump to his compatriot's defence, after Real Madrid strolled to a comfortable 5-0 La Liga victory at Mallorca last week, when Ronaldo was repeatedly referred to as 'Barbie' by the home crowd.

Even in light of the frequent heckling, Mourinho says Ronaldo generally conducts himself well, but accepts that the winger's past actions have left him open to criticism, and continued speculation about his future at the club.

"What happens in the future is in the lap of the Gods," added Ronaldo. "In life anything is possible and nothing is impossible, but for now I am not thinking about another club or a new contract."
